I wanted to create an artwork that connects to people, inspire them to open up their hearts to love. Our society caused a lot of people to become damage and build a wall around them, in fear of getting hurt. But I want to remind them that those past experiences and trauma do not define them and should not hold them back from finding their own happiness. I want to encourage people to be a little vulnerable and surrender to love, everyone deserves to receive love. The diverse society in the background shows the outcome of opening up to love or turning away from love. Even though handcuffs usually symbolizes the lost of freedom and usually a negative sight, in this piece of art, the handcuffs symbolizes a positive thing. They are surrendering to love and opening up their hearts to love. A world without love is cold and gloomy. The world is always ready to love you, it is your decision however to love the world back or not. New opportunities and pathways will open once people decide to love themselves and others. The clay hands were created to be the main focal point of the artwork to symbolize how love could be tough but also soft, I believe it was the statement piece that made it successful.
